"Safe Navigation – Digital Step by Step": A Pathway to Promote Digital Inclusion for Citizens
In Autumn 2026, EUROPE DIRECT Paesi Vesuviani will launch "Navigare Sicuri – Il digitale a piccoli passi" (Safe Navigation – Digital Step by Step), a new initiative tailored for seniors (over 60) and digitally fragile citizens. The program aims to impart essential digital skills to bridge the generational digital divide, thereby fostering active and informed citizenship through the use of digital tools.
The initiative features a series of at least 5 hands-on, inclusive, and independence-oriented workshops tailored for adults aged 60+, retirees, active seniors, and anyone seeking to improve their digital literacy. Throughout these sessions, participants will learn how to navigate everyday tools such as WhatsApp, SPID (Italy's digital identity system), email, and essential online public services.
The training will also focus on Cybersecurity—a critical topic for every citizen today. Participants will gain practical knowledge to spot online scams, avoid phishing, and safeguard their personal data while browsing the web.
Activities will be delivered using clear visual slides, practical exercises, and everyday digital platforms. The teaching methodology is simple and accessible, designed to guide each participant step-by-step regardless of their starting skill level. Through this program, and in line with European Commission priorities, EUROPE DIRECT Paesi Vesuviani aims to deliver measurable improvements in basic digital literacy, fostering greater independence, safety, and both digital and social inclusion.
Aligned with the European Union’s Digital Compass 2030 and Digital Decade targets for digital literacy—as well as reports by the EU Agency for Fundamental Rights—this project seeks to ensure that older adults are not left behind in access to public services within an increasingly digitized society. In a world where technology is integral to daily life, acquiring fundamental digital skills empowers citizens to access services effortlessly, communicate independently, and navigate the web with confidence and safety.
